Renowned Mexican Producer, Arranger, and Composer        Mauricio Arriaga Joins SESAC Latina

2015 Latin GRAMMY® Nominee for Best Regional Mexican Song with his composition “Todo Tuyo” performed by Banda El Recodo de Don Cruz Lizárraga

Renowned Mexican composer Mauricio Arriaga has signed with SESAC Latina to represent the public performing rights of his songs.

“We couldn’t be more excited to sign Mauricio Arriaga to our incredible roster of affiliates,” says Celeste Zendejas, Director, SESAC Latina.  “Mauricio is a truly gifted writer, musician, arranger and producer with an impressive body of work.  We are honored to have him in the SESAC family.”

The acclaimed producer, and composer says he feels “practically married” to the songs that define him as the go-to songwriter for telenovelas on Televisa in Mexico and Univisión in the U.S., and that his decision to join SESAC Latina is based on his need to open up more “possibilities” for his songs, independent of their original narrative context.

“The producer is the one who tells the story of his novela, and we translate it into a song,” Mauricio Arriaga notes. “Emotionally, it takes us in. At first, we paid close attention to the plot. Now, with more experience, we can take the novela into a more general scope, where people can identify with the song even if they haven’t seen the soap opera.”

He adds that this approach “has allowed us direct the songs towards two spheres: radio and TV.”

Among his music-industry peers, Mauricio Arriaga is respected as a producer, arranger, vocal coach, composer, sound engineer and multi-instrumentalist. He plays acoustic and electric guitar, acoustic and electric bass, mandolin, drums and piano. Furthermore, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

This year, he’s nominated in the 2015 Latin GRAMMY® for Best Regional Mexican Song, with his composition “Todo Tuyo” (All Yours), performed by Banda El Recodo de Don Cruz Lizárraga.

He’s especially proud of his influence in placing Regional Mexican songs in Televisa-produced novelas. These novelas are broadcast in many countries “where music from Mexico is well-received and is making an impact, especially in the United States,” he observes.

His songwriting contributions, created in collaboration with his business partner and fellow songwriter Jorge Eduardo Murguía, can be heard on such telenovelas as Yo No Creo en los Hombres (I Don’t Believe in Men) and Antes Muerta que Lichita (Better Off Dead Than Being Lichita), which is being aired on Univisión in the United States. Coming soon is the novela Amor de Barrio, which features the team’s title track performed by Julión Álvarez.

The creative work of Mauricio Arriaga also encompasses the novelas’ intro music and all of the incidental music, a total of 25-30 segments per hour-long episode.

Over 20 of his compositions have been nominated or winners of awards for telenovela music, including at the 2015 Premios Juventud in the U.S. and the 2015 Premios TVyNovelas in Mexico. His songs have been performed by such greats as Calibre 50, Intocable, Fonseca, Banda El Recodo and Diana Reyes.
